Where to get an original Honda window sticker
A Honda window sticker isn't something you can download: we found no public Honda sticker URL. That leaves three realistic routes to the original:
- The car's own paperwork. The first owner often keeps the label with the sales contract or in the glove box.
- A Honda dealer. Give the dealer the VIN and ask for a copy of the original window sticker. A franchised Honda dealer can usually print it.
- Honda's customer service. If a dealer can't help, ask Honda directly with the VIN in hand.
While you wait, run the VIN through the free spec sheet above. It decodes the factory build and adds EPA ratings, NHTSA stars and recalls, all from public data.
Which Honda vehicles have a window sticker?
Honda's cars and light trucks do. For 2026, NHTSA's vPIC lists the Accord, Civic, Civic Si, Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V, Odyssey, Passport, Pilot, Prelude, Prologue and Ridgeline.
The same vPIC list also includes Honda motorcycles and off-road models, such as the Gold Wing, Rebel and Pioneer. The federal sticker law covers automobiles, which it defines to include passenger cars and station wagons, so motorcycles and off-road models fall outside it. A motorcycle VIN will decode, but there's no original label to chase.
Honda hybrid and EV numbers on the sticker
Hybrids now run through Honda's core models, and their stickers use the gasoline layout, because EPA labels a hybrid that doesn't plug in as a gasoline vehicle. EPA's 2026 combined ratings:
- Civic Hybrid sedan: 49 mpg
- Accord Hybrid: 48 mpg, or 44 in Sport and Touring trims
- CR-V Hybrid: 40 mpg with front-wheel drive, 37 with AWD and 35 for the TrailSport
- Prelude: 44 mpg
The Prologue is Honda's electric SUV, so its label shows range and MPGe instead: 308 miles with front-wheel drive, 294 for the AWD Touring and 283 for the AWD Elite. On the gas side, the Pilot is rated at 20 to 22 mpg and the Odyssey at 22.
Comparing a CR-V Hybrid with a RAV4? Every 2026 RAV4 in EPA's data is a hybrid, rated at 43 mpg with front-wheel drive and 38 to 42 with AWD, and the Toyota window sticker page covers Toyota's other hybrids.
What's on the free Honda spec sheet
Everything on it comes from government data matched to your VIN:
- The build: year, model, trim, body, engine, drive and assembly plant, from NHTSA's vPIC decoder.
- Fuel economy: EPA city, highway and combined mpg plus the annual fuel cost, shown when the VIN matches one EPA listing with confidence. EPA lists the 2026 Civic sedan with a 2.0-liter, a 1.5-liter turbo or a hybrid engine, and the hatchback three more ways, so a weak match is left blank rather than guessed.
- Safety: NHTSA's 5-Star Safety Ratings. For 2025, the Accord sedan earned 5 stars in every category, and the Civic sedan, CR-V and Pilot earned 5 stars overall.
- Recalls: the campaigns NHTSA lists for that model and year.
The spec sheet is printable, so you can keep a copy with the car's file.
Where is the VIN on a Honda?
In the same two places as any car sold in the US: a plate on the dashboard that you read through the windshield on the driver's side, and the certification label on the driver's door jamb. The door label also gives the month and year the car was built, which helps when a model changeover falls mid-year.
The first three characters show who built it. Per vPIC, 1HG (cars), 5FN and 5J6 (SUVs and minivans) and 5FP (trucks, which for Honda means the Ridgeline) are registered to American Honda; 2HG to Honda of Canada; 3CZ to Honda de Mexico; and JHM to Honda Motor Co. in Japan. The Honda VIN decoder covers every position.
Where was my Honda built? Check the parts content label
New passenger vehicles built on or after October 1, 1994 also carry a parts content label, either as part of the window sticker or as a separate label. It gives the share of US and Canadian parts for the carline, up to two other countries that supplied 15 percent or more, the city, state and country of final assembly, and the countries the engine and transmission came from.
Honda VINs carry US, Canadian, Mexican and Japanese manufacturer codes, so this label is how you settle where a particular car was built and how much of it is North American. The spec sheet shows the plant from the VIN decode; the percentages are only on the original label.
Selling a used Honda?
The factory sticker shows the price when new, which doesn't help much on a five-year-old Civic. Dealers can print a used-car window sheet with the free window sticker maker: VIN-decoded features, price, mileage and a QR code that sends shoppers to your listing. Private sellers can print EPA's used car fuel economy label, which shows the car's ratings from when it was new, and our guide on how to sell a car covers the rest.
For dealers, CarShots handles the photos: shoot on your phone in the browser or the iOS app, and each photo comes back on a clean backdrop while you move to the next angle.
