How it works

  1. 1

    Enter the VIN and miles

We decode the VIN for free with NHTSA, so the year, make, model and trim fill in by themselves.

  2. 2

    We read the live market

Every similar car for sale near you and across the country, with outliers, placeholder prices and wrecked cars left out.

  3. 3

    Get the report

Market value and range, the cars you’re up against nearby, how long they sit, where your price lands, and what to offer.

Market data for the desk and the lot

What the book values leave out: your market, the cars you'll be listed next to, and your own costs.

Market value for its miles and year

A fit across every comp tells you what each mile and each model year is worth for this car, so a 30,000-mile car isn’t priced like a 90,000-mile one.

Your local market, not a national average

Cars within 150 miles pull the value toward what your buyers actually see, and you see how many you’re up against and how long they sit.

A list price you can defend

Slide the list price and see where it lands among similar cars nearby, from the cheapest on the market to the top of it.

An offer that leaves your gross

Worked back from the market value: reconditioning, fees, floorplan and the gross you want come off first, with an opening offer and a walk-away number.

Questions dealers ask

Where does the data come from?

From live retail listings at dealers across the US, refreshed through the day. Market Intel uses the cars like yours listed for sale right now, within a model year either side, and leaves out listings priced far from the rest.

How much does it cost?

Your first report is free with a CarShots account. After that, Market Intel is $50 a month for up to 300 reports, and you can cancel any time. Promo codes work at checkout. Re-running the same car the same day doesn’t count again.

Is it a wholesale or auction value?

No. It starts from retail listing prices, then works back to an offer using your reconditioning, fees, floorplan and the gross you want. Listing prices aren’t sale prices, so it also takes off the usual talk-down.

Why do I need an account?

Every report pulls live market data, so it runs for dealers with an account. It takes about 20 seconds, and your recent reports are saved for you.

How accurate is it?

Each report shows a confidence level and a range. With dozens of similar cars listed nearby the range is tight; with only a handful it widens and says so. Always check the car itself: condition, history and options still move the number.

Is it part of the CarShots photo plan?

No, Market Intel is its own plan and bills on its own. You can have either one, or both.
