Chrysler VIN lookup: what comes back
Paste the 17 characters and the Chrysler VIN decoder returns what NHTSA's vPIC database holds for that car: model year, model, trim, series, body style, front- or all-wheel drive, engine, transmission where it's on file, GVWR class, plant and the safety equipment Stellantis reported. NHTSA's recall campaigns for the same model and year come with it; for the status of one specific VIN, use NHTSA's recall search.
Chrysler's current lineup is all minivans, built in Windsor, Ontario. Older Chryslers, such as the LeBaron, 300, PT Cruiser and Town and Country, decode the same way as long as the VIN has 17 characters.
How to read a Chrysler Pacifica VIN
Stellantis's 2027 guide lays out the Pacifica VIN like this. The last column builds the pattern for a 2027 Pacifica Select with front-wheel drive; ? is the check digit and # the serial.
| Position | Meaning | 2027 Pacifica codes | Pattern |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Country of the builder | 2 = Canada (FCA Canada) | 2 |
| 2 | Manufacturer | C, shared across Stellantis brands | C |
| 3 | Vehicle type | 4 = multipurpose passenger vehicle | 4 |
| 4 | Restraints and GVWR | R = belts, front air bags and side bags in all rows, 6,001 to 7,000 lb | R |
| 5 | Brand | C = Chrysler | C |
| 6 | Drive wheels | 1 = FWD, 3 = AWD | 1 |
| 7 | Series | B Select, C LX, P Pinnacle, G Limited; Z SXT on the Canadian Grand Caravan | B |
| 8 | Engine | G = 3.6L V6, gasoline, 287 hp | G |
| 9 | Check digit | Calculated by the formula in 49 CFR 565 | ? |
| 10 | Model year | V = 2027 (T 2026, S 2025) | V |
| 11 | Plant | R = Windsor Assembly, Windsor, Ontario | R |
| 12 | Plant sequence, 1st digit | Six-digit build sequence at Windsor | # |
| 13 | Plant sequence, 2nd digit | Build sequence | # |
| 14 | Plant sequence, 3rd digit | Build sequence | # |
| 15 | Plant sequence, 4th digit | Build sequence | # |
| 16 | Plant sequence, 5th digit | Build sequence | # |
| 17 | Plant sequence, 6th digit | Build sequence | # |
Positions 5 to 7 also cover the body type (extended wagon), brakes and left-hand drive. A real VIN replaces ? and # with characters, and the decoder checks the ? against the rest.

Chrysler WMI codes in NHTSA's data
The first three characters tell you who built the vehicle and what type it is. vPIC lists these for Chrysler:
- Chrysler only: 1A4, 1A8 and 1C8 (U.S. MPVs), 4C3 (U.S. cars), 2A3 (Canadian cars), 2A4, 2A8, 2C8 and 2CA (Canadian MPVs), and 3A4, 3A8, 3C8 and 3CA (Mexican MPVs).
- Shared with Dodge, Jeep, Ram and others: 1C3 and 2C3 for cars, 1C4, 2C4 and 3C4 for MPVs, and 1C6 and 3C6 for trucks. On these, position 5 names the brand: C for Chrysler.
- Plymouth and Eagle, the old sister brands, have their own codes (1P3, 2P3, 1E3 and more); the Mopar VIN decoder covers them.
Chrysler models vPIC knows
For 2026, vPIC lists the Grand Caravan, Pacifica and Voyager. Across all years it has 38 Chrysler models, among them the 200, 300 and 300C, Aspen, Cirrus, Concorde, Cordoba, Crossfire, Fifth Avenue, Imperial, Intrepid, LeBaron, LHS, New Yorker, Newport, Prowler, PT Cruiser, Sebring, Town and Country and Viper.
Some minivans changed brands over the years. If you paste a Dodge Grand Caravan VIN here, the decoder flags that it's a Dodge and offers the Dodge VIN decoder.
Where to find the VIN on a Chrysler
- Through the windshield on the driver's side of the dash. Cars, minivans and SUVs must show it there (49 CFR 565.13).
- On the certification label in the driver's door opening, which also lists the GVWR (49 CFR 567.4).
- On the title and registration. If you're selling, the VIN on the title must match the car; the title transfer guide covers the rest.
