How to get a Subaru window sticker by VIN
Subaru has no public page that returns the original label, so getting a Subaru window sticker by VIN means asking a franchised Subaru dealer to print it. Before you call, check the car's own paperwork: the first owner may have kept the label.
Read the VIN
Use the plate at the base of the windshield, visible from outside on the driver's side, or the certification label on the driver's door jamb.
Ask a Subaru dealer for a reprint
Request a copy of the original window sticker for that VIN, and have all 17 characters ready.
Go to Subaru if a dealer can't
Subaru's customer service is the next stop. Give them the VIN and the model year.
Print the spec sheet for now
Enter the VIN above for the factory build, EPA figures, crash ratings and recalls on one printable page.
Subaru Solterra, Trailseeker and Uncharted range
| Subaru EV | EPA range | Drive |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 Uncharted | 308 miles | Front-wheel drive |
| 2026 Uncharted AWD | 287 miles, 273 on 20-inch wheels | AWD |
| 2026 Solterra | 288 miles, 278 on 20-inch wheels | AWD |
| 2026 Trailseeker | 281 miles, 274 on 20-inch wheels | AWD |
| 2025 Solterra | 227 miles, 222 for Limited and Touring | AWD |
Source: EPA data on fueleconomy.gov. The EV label also shows MPGe, kWh per 100 miles and the 240-volt charging time: EPA lists 8 hours for these 2026 models and 11 for the 2025 Solterra.
Subaru gas and hybrid mpg on the window sticker
Every 2026 Subaru gas model has AWD except the rear-drive BRZ. EPA's combined ratings:
- Crosstrek: 29 mpg, 26 for the Wilderness, 36 for the Crosstrek Hybrid
- Forester: 28 to 29 mpg, 26 for the Wilderness, 35 for the Forester Hybrid
- Outback: 27 mpg with the 2.5-liter, 24 with the 2.4-liter turbo, 23 for the Wilderness
- Ascent: 21 to 22 mpg
- Impreza: 29 mpg
The WRX and BRZ are rated on premium fuel, so their annual fuel cost runs higher than the mpg alone suggests. How much higher shows on the Mazda CX-90, which EPA lists on both fuels at 25 mpg: $2,700 a year on regular and $3,300 on premium. The two hybrids don't plug in, so they get the standard gasoline label.
Why some Subaru VINs start with a Toyota code
The first three VIN characters name the manufacturer. Per vPIC, Subaru of America uses 4S3 (cars) and 4S4 (SUVs), and Subaru Corporation in Japan uses JF1 (cars) and JF2 (SUVs). vPIC also lists Subaru under two Toyota Motor Corporation codes, JTE and JTM, and lists Toyota under Subaru's JF1. So a Subaru can carry a Toyota code, and a Toyota can carry a Subaru one.
That's why the tool goes by the make the VIN decodes to, not the first three characters. A Toyota VIN entered here gets a link to the Toyota window sticker page. The Subaru VIN decoder explains the rest of the code.
Subaru crash test ratings on the sticker
For 2025, NHTSA rated the Ascent, Crosstrek, Forester and Outback at 5 stars overall, with 5 stars for frontal and side crashes and 4 for rollover. Each is listed only with AWD, so there's one rating per model. The spec sheet shows NHTSA's ratings for the model your VIN decodes to, while the label on the car shows the ratings that applied when it was new.
Listing a used Subaru?
Trim matters on a used Subaru: a Wilderness, a Limited and a base model can share a body but not a price. If you have the original sticker, show it in the listing. If you don't, the free window sticker maker turns the VIN into a used-car window sheet with your price, mileage and a QR code to the listing. The FTC Buyers Guide still has to go in the window.
