Volkswagen window sticker lookup by VIN

We found no public Volkswagen window sticker site, so the original label comes from a Volkswagen dealer, who can usually print it from the VIN. Enter the VIN below for a free spec sheet: decoded build, EPA mpg or range, crash ratings and recalls.

It's on the dashboard, readable through the windshield on the driver's side, and on the label in the driver's door opening. The title, registration and insurance card show it too.

Where to get an original Volkswagen window sticker

Start with the car's own paperwork: the first owner may have kept the label with the bill of sale. Otherwise, a franchised Volkswagen dealer can usually print the original Volkswagen window sticker from the VIN, and Volkswagen's customer service is the fallback if no dealer can.

The free spec sheet on this page covers the meantime with the vPIC decode, EPA ratings, NHTSA's star ratings and recalls. It can't recover the price section: MSRP, options and packages with their prices, and the destination charge.

What does 4Motion mean on a Volkswagen sticker?

In EPA's data, every 4Motion version is an all-wheel or four-wheel drive version, rated separately from the two-wheel drive car and a few mpg lower. The 2026 combined ratings:

2026 VolkswagenTwo-wheel drive4Motion
Taos31 mpg28 mpg
Tiguan28 to 29 mpg25 mpg
Atlas23 mpg21 to 22 mpg
Atlas Cross Sport23 mpg22 mpg
ID.4291 miles, rear-wheel drive263 miles

Source: EPA data on fueleconomy.gov. The Jetta (33 to 34 mpg), Jetta GLI (29) and Golf GTI (27) are listed with front-wheel drive only; the Golf R is AWD and rated at 25 mpg on premium fuel.

Volkswagen ID.4 and ID. Buzz window sticker range

Volkswagen's EVs get the electric label: range, MPGe, kWh per 100 miles and the 240-volt charge time. For 2026, EPA rates the ID.4 at 291 miles with rear-wheel drive and 263 with AWD. Model year matters here. EPA listed a shorter-range 2025 ID.4 (the ID.4 and ID.4 S) at 206 miles, alongside 291-mile Pro versions, and rates the 2025 ID. Buzz at 234 miles, or 231 with 4Motion. The listed charge time on 240 volts is 8 hours for the 2026 ID.4 and 9 for the 2025 ID. Buzz.

Where was my Volkswagen built?

The first three characters of the VIN answer it. Per vPIC, Volkswagen Group of America uses 1VW (cars) and 1V2 (SUVs) in the US; Volkswagen de Mexico uses 3VW (cars) and 3VV (SUVs); and Volkswagen AG in Germany uses WVW (cars) and WVG (SUVs). The decode adds the plant, and the original sticker names the final assembly point.

New cars built since October 1, 1994 also carry a parts content label, either on the window sticker or as a separate label. It adds the share of US and Canadian parts and the countries that supplied the engine and transmission. The Volkswagen VIN decoder walks through the rest of the VIN.

Volkswagen crash ratings on the window sticker

For 2025, NHTSA gave the Atlas, Jetta and Tiguan 5 stars overall, with 4 stars frontal, 5 side and 4 rollover. The ID.4 scored 5 stars overall and 5 for frontal crashes. The spec sheet lists NHTSA's ratings and the recalls on file for your VIN's model and year.

Listing a used Volkswagen?

On a used Atlas or Tiguan, say whether it has 4Motion: it changes the mpg on the label and the price shoppers expect. The free window sticker maker prints the decoded drive, engine and features with your price on a used-car window sheet. Next to it goes the FTC Buyers Guide, required on every used car a dealer offers.

CarShots shoots in the browser or the iOS app, with on-screen outlines for each exterior angle, so every car on your lot gets the same set of shots.

Common questions

Can I find a Volkswagen window sticker by VIN online?

Not the original, as far as we can find: there's no public Volkswagen sticker URL. A Volkswagen dealer can usually print it from the VIN, and this page's spec sheet is free.

What fuel is on a Volkswagen window sticker?

EPA lists every 2026 gas Volkswagen on regular fuel except the Golf R, which is rated on premium. The fuel type sets the annual fuel cost on the label.

Why is a 2025 ID.4 rated lower than a 2026?

EPA listed a shorter-range 2025 ID.4 at 206 miles next to the 291-mile Pro versions. For 2026, EPA lists the ID.4 at 291 miles with rear-wheel drive and 263 with AWD.

Can I get the sticker for a Volkswagen I'm buying from a private seller?

Ask the seller to check the car's paperwork first. If the label is gone, a Volkswagen dealer can usually print it from the VIN, and this page's spec sheet shows the decoded build, EPA figures, crash ratings and recalls in the meantime.

Does this page work for an Audi or Porsche VIN?

The VIN will decode, but the tool flags the make and offers the Audi or Porsche page, which cover those brands' models and codes.
