How to get an original Volvo window sticker
Check the car's paperwork first; the label may be in the glove box or the sales folder. If it isn't, a franchised Volvo dealer can usually print the original Volvo window sticker from the VIN, and Volvo's customer service can help when a dealer can't.
Until you have it, the spec sheet on this page is free: the vPIC decode, EPA fuel economy or range, NHTSA's 5-Star Safety Ratings and the recalls NHTSA lists for that model and year. Option packages and their prices are on the original label only. For a tour of the label itself, see the window sticker guide.
What B5, B6, T8, EX and EC mean on a Volvo sticker
Volvo's badges map to EPA's label types:
- B4, B5 and B6 are gas engines that EPA lists as mild hybrids. They don't plug in, so they get the gasoline label: for 2026, the XC40 B4 is rated at 27 mpg combined, the XC60 B5 at 26, the XC90 B5 at 24 and the XC90 B6 at 23.
- T8 is the plug-in hybrid, with the two-box label: the 2026 XC60 T8 is rated at 36 miles on electricity and 28 mpg on gas, and the XC90 T8 at 33 miles and 27 mpg.
- EX and EC models are electric, with range and MPGe on the label. With rear-wheel drive, the 2026 EX40 is rated at 296 miles and the EC40 at 298.
EPA rates every 2026 gas and plug-in Volvo on premium fuel, as it does every 2026 Land Rover.
Volvo EX30 and EX90 range by version
Volvo's EVs show how much the exact version changes the label. EPA's 2026 ratings:
- EX30 single motor extended range: 261 miles
- EX30 Twin Performance: 253 miles
- EX30 Cross Country: 227 miles on 19-inch wheels, 203 on 18-inch wheels
- EX90 with rear-wheel drive: 276 miles, or 291 with 21-inch wheels
- EX90 Twin Motor: 298 miles, or 305 with 21-inch wheels
Wheel size doesn't move range the same way on every model. A VIN doesn't record the wheels either, so the spec sheet shows range only when the decode matches one EPA listing.
Where is the VIN on a Volvo, and where was it built?
Read it through the windshield on the driver's side or on the certification label in the driver's door jamb. Per vPIC, Volvo Car Corporation in Sweden uses YV1 (cars) and YV4 (SUVs); Volvo Car USA uses 7JR (cars, registered in 2018) and 7JD (SUVs, registered in 2024); and Daqing Volvo Car Manufacturing in China uses LVY (cars) and LYV (SUVs). The decode adds the plant city, and for an imported Volvo the sticker's final assembly point is the port of importation, as the law defines it. The Volvo VIN decoder covers every position.
vPIC's Volvo search also returns codes for Volvo trucks and buses, which are registered to Volvo Group companies rather than Volvo Cars. The window sticker law, written for passenger cars and station wagons, doesn't cover them.
Volvo crash ratings on the window sticker
For 2025, NHTSA rated the XC40 B5, XC60 B5, XC90 B5 and the electric EX90 at 5 stars overall, with 5 stars for frontal and side crashes and 4 for rollover. The spec sheet shows NHTSA's ratings for the model your VIN decodes to, next to the recalls on file for that model and year.
Listing a used Volvo?
A used XC90 could be a B5, a B6 or a T8, and each has a different label and price. Put the version in the listing, along with the EPA figure that goes with it. The free window sticker maker prints a window sheet with the decoded version, your price and mileage, and a QR code to the listing. The FTC Buyers Guide goes in the window as well.
