How the GM window sticker lookup works
GM runs one window sticker service for all four of its brands, so this page takes any Chevrolet, GMC, Buick or Cadillac VIN. Each brand also has its own page with model-specific help.
Enter the VIN
All 17 characters, from the windshield or the driver's door jamb. Spaces are stripped and letters capitalized for you, and a VIN with an I, O or Q or a bad check digit gets flagged before anything is looked up.
See which GM brand it is
NHTSA's decode shows the make, model, year, trim, body, engine, drive type and plant. If you expected a Cadillac and the VIN says GMC, you'll see it here.
Open GM's sticker
For a recent model, tap the View the original window sticker button, which names the brand. GM's own sticker page opens in a new tab.
Older VIN? Spec sheet first
For 2022 and older model years, the free spec sheet comes first and the GM link sits under it as Try GM anyway, in case GM has that one.
Why GM window stickers are for recent models only
GM posts original stickers for recent model years only. On October 20, 2026 we ran real VINs through GM's service: three 2025 Silverados came back with full stickers, while a 2017 Equinox, a 2020 Silverado and a 2022 Equinox came back as empty files. All of those test VINs were Chevrolets; Buick, GMC and Cadillac stickers come from the same GM service.
That's why the tool treats 2022 and older VINs differently. Newer ones get the GM link up front, with a note that GM only keeps recent years online. We haven't tested 2023 or 2024 VINs yet, so we don't promise those either way.
The model year is the 10th character of the VIN: N is 2022, P is 2023, R is 2024 and S is 2025.
Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac: one lookup
Every GM brand goes through the same sticker service. These are the main models NHTSA lists for each brand in the 2025 model year, the year GM had on file in our test:
| Brand | Main 2025 models (NHTSA) | Brand page |
|---|---|---|
| Chevrolet | Blazer, BrightDrop, Colorado, Corvette, Equinox, Express, Malibu, Silverado, Silverado HD, Suburban, Tahoe, Trailblazer, Traverse, Trax, plus medium-duty trucks | Chevrolet window sticker |
| GMC | Acadia, Canyon, Hummer EV Pickup, Hummer EV SUV, Savana, Sierra, Sierra HD, Terrain, Yukon, Yukon XL | GMC window sticker |
| Buick | Enclave, Encore GX, Envision, Envista | Buick window sticker |
| Cadillac | CT4, CT5, Celestiq, Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade IQ, Lyriq, Optiq, XT4, XT5, XT6 | Cadillac window sticker |
What a blank GM sticker page means
When GM doesn't have a VIN, it doesn't show an error page. It sends back an empty file, so the new tab may stay blank or your browser may say it couldn't load the PDF. Either way, GM doesn't have that sticker online.
To get the original for an older GM vehicle:
- Start with the spec sheet. It covers the decode, EPA ratings, NHTSA scores and recalls for any GM VIN, and it prints.
- Ask a dealer of that brand. A Chevrolet, GMC, Buick or Cadillac dealer may be able to print the original from the VIN.
- Check the sales file. Original stickers often end up with the purchase contract or in the glove box.
- Report it. Tap Didn't work? so we can tell which years GM has.
Pontiac, Saturn, Oldsmobile and Hummer stickers
GM's retired brands stopped building cars long before the model years GM keeps online, so their original stickers aren't available from GM's lookup. The paperwork that came with the car is the best place to look, and NHTSA's free VIN decoder still reads the VIN itself.
The Hummer name is the exception. The electric Hummer EV pickup and SUV are GMC models in NHTSA's data, so their VINs go through the same lookup as any recent GMC.
Find the VIN and match it to the sticker
On a Chevrolet, GMC, Buick or Cadillac up to 10,000 lb GVWR, the VIN is on a plate you can read through the windshield on the driver's side, and on the certification label in the driver's door opening. The registration, title and insurance card carry it as well.
The window sticker prints it too: federal law requires the label to show the vehicle's identification number. So if a seller hands you a printed sticker, check that its VIN matches the one on the windshield. If it doesn't, the sticker belongs to a different vehicle, however similar.
For what each character means, use the free GM VIN decoder.
How dealers use GM's original sticker
On a recent GM trade-in, pull the sticker before you appraise. It confirms the trim and every factory package, and it hands you the exact names to use in the listing. For older units, print the spec sheet instead, and keep either one in the deal jacket.
The original sticker is a reference, not your asking price. Every used vehicle you offer still needs the FTC Buyers Guide displayed. Your own price sticker can come from the free window sticker maker, with a QR code that opens the car's listing.
For the listing photos, CarShots works from any phone. Shoot the car where it's parked, then fix details in plain words, like "hide the license plate".
