How to get a GMC window sticker by VIN
GMC stickers are served by GM, which keeps them online for recent model years. Four steps:
Find the VIN
On the windshield plate, the driver's door jamb label, the registration or the insurance card.
Enter it
The tool tidies the format and catches impossible VINs, like a wrong check digit, before looking anything up.
Match the decode
Check that NHTSA's year, model and trim match the truck or SUV in front of you.
Open GM's sticker
Tap View the original GMC window sticker for GM's PDF in a new tab. For 2022 and older VINs, the link sits under the spec sheet as Try GM anyway.
Elevation, AT4 or Denali? The sticker settles it
GMC sells most models in several trims, such as Elevation, AT4 and Denali, and buyers pay for the difference. The window sticker names the exact trim and lists each factory package and option with its price, so you can see what a particular Sierra or Yukon really has instead of trusting a listing. It also gives the base price, the destination charge, the total, and the paint and interior names.
On trucks, the package list is also where trailering and off-road equipment shows up, which a VIN decode alone won't tell you.
Sierra HD, Savana and Hummer EV: special cases
- Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD. No MPG on the sticker. EPA doesn't test pickups over 8,500 lb GVWR with a bed of 72 inches or more, and it names the GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 as examples. The spec sheet leaves the fuel box empty for them too.
- Savana 3500 Cargo. Same story: EPA exempts cargo vans over 8,500 lb GVWR and lists this one.
- Hummer EV. The Hummer EV pickup and SUV are GMC models in NHTSA's data, so their VINs go through this page and the same GM sticker service.
The Sierra 1500, Canyon, Terrain, Acadia and Yukon get EPA's regular label, with city, highway and combined MPG and an annual fuel cost.
Which GMC model years are on file?
Recent ones. On October 20, 2026 we ran real VINs through the GM service that serves GMC: 2025 models came back with stickers, while 2017, 2020 and 2022 VINs came back empty. The VINs we used were Chevrolets, and GMC uses the same service, so treat that as the pattern until a GMC re-test confirms it.
NHTSA's 2018 GMC list (Acadia, Canyon, Savana, Sierra, Terrain, Yukon and Yukon XL) uses the same names as 2025, but a 2018 is older than anything GM had on file in our test. Look for J (2018) or S (2025) in the 10th place of the VIN.
Where is the VIN on a GMC?
Pickups and SUVs up to 10,000 lb GVWR have the VIN on a plate visible through the windshield on the driver's side. It's also on the certification label in the driver's door opening, which lists the GVWR and axle ratings as well.
Federal rules only require the windshield VIN up to 10,000 lb GVWR, and many Sierra 3500HD configurations are rated above that. If you don't see a windshield plate on a heavy truck, use the door label.

GMC sticker didn't load?
GM answers a VIN it doesn't have with an empty file, so you'll see a blank tab or a PDF error. That's GM's "not on file" answer, not a problem on your end. Then:
- Re-read the VIN from the truck itself, not from a listing.
- Use the spec sheet, which works for every GMC.
- Ask a GMC dealer whether they can print the original from the VIN.
- Search the glove box and purchase paperwork for the original.
- Tap Didn't work? to tell us the year was missing.
Using GMC stickers on a used lot
Trucks and big SUVs sell on configuration. Before you price a recent Sierra or Yukon, pull the sticker, check the packages and trailering equipment against the vehicle, and write the listing with GM's own names for them.
Put the FTC Buyers Guide on every used GMC you offer. Print your price sticker with the free window sticker maker. The same lookup handles Cadillac and Chevrolet trade-ins.
A walkaround video helps big vehicles too. From the photos you take with CarShots, you can get a 15-second 360° walkaround with voiceover and music for the listing.
