How motorcycle loans work
Motorcycle loans are shorter than car loans, usually 24 to 72 months, and rates run higher because bikes are riskier collateral. Dealers often offer maker-subsidized rates on new bikes, so ask.
A worked example
A $15,000 motorcycle with 6% tax, $300 in fees, $1,500 down, at 9.9% for 48 months:
- Tax: $900
- Amount financed: $14,700
- Payment: $372.12 a month
What rate to use for a motorcycle loan
Lenders price motorcycle loans their own way, by the loan size, the motorcycle's age and your credit. The credit chips start from car loan averages as a rough guide: type the rate your lender quotes for the real number.
